Italian in Comics: from “Corriere dei Piccoli” to Gipi

October 27 at 6:30 pm (PST) – On the occasion of the 20th annual Italian Language Week in the World, you are cordially invited to an online webinar, “Italian in Comics: from “Corriere dei Piccoli” to Gipi.” How has it been used historically and how is the Italian language used in a complex audiovisual medium such as comics? This conference by Dr. Antonio Iannotta (USD) focuses on some of the authors, stories, heroes, magazines and books that created the illustrated imagery of Italians. An exciting journey in the Italian language used in comics with relationships to cinema, literature, art and other media.

Antonio Iannotta holds a PhD in Communication Sciences. He has published essays and articles on film, TV series, comics, literature and media theory, as well as the volumes Lo sguardo sottratto. Samuel Beckett e i media (2006) and Il cinema audiotattile. Suono e immagine nell’esperienza filmica (2017). He was Editorial Director for Comicon Editions where he edited comics and essays on authors and major Italian publishing houses and beyond. He is the co-author of three documentaries on comic books. He teaches Italian at the University of San Diego and is the Artistic Director of the San Diego Italian Film Festival.
