MESSAGE FROM THE CALIFORNIA COMISSION ON TEACHER CREDENTIALING
At the present time the Commission is not providing home-based online administrations of the CSET examinations, and candidates must take the exams in person at the authorized testing centers and locations. There are a variety of reasons for this policy, including but not limited to test security, fairness and access for all candidates, technical issues, issues relating to alternative testing arrangements for candidates with documented disabilities, and proctoring. Candidates who are unable to take or complete the CSET examination have other COVID-19 options available in order to continue moving forward towards their credential goal. All Commission-approved teacher preparation programs are familiar with these options and can advise candidates accordingly. General information about COVID-19 related flexibilities is also available on the Commission’s website. In particular, this link might be most helpful as it provides an overview.
Fondazione Italia has currently suspended in-person sessions for the Italian CSET oral and written competency portion of the exam due to the COVID-19 health crisis.
Test Date: TBD
Regular Fee: $110
Late Fee: $35 – added if registration received after April 24, 2020
To complete the Italian CSET, which serves to establish core competency in Italian for a single-subject credential in California, candidates must register for, and pass TWO separate sub tests: the cultural sub test I & II (General Linguistics, Literature, History, Geography and Culture), and the language sub test III (Oral and written competency).
Fondazione Italia is an Italian Assessor Agency that has been approved to administer ONLY the language sub test III (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) of the Italian CSET, and report those results back to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).
We administer ONLY the language sub test III of the Italian CSET.
It is the candidates’ responsibility to make sure they have registered for and completed the cultural sub test I & II through the CCTC website. The cultural sub test portion of the Italian CSET is administered by the CCTC during the following 4-week testing windows Sept. 28–Oct. 25, 2020 and Apr. 12–May 9, 2021. To schedule an appointment with the CCTC for the cultural sub-test click here.
Candidates must pass both the language and cultural sub tests
to pass the Italian CSET.
Passing both parts of the Italian CSET does not provide you with a single-subject credential. Passage of the Italian CSET only allows you to teach Italian in a middle or high school once you have completed a single-subject credentialing program. It is the responsibility of the candidate to make sure they have completed all the requirements for a single-subject credential by visiting the CCTC website.
