Research studies role native language plays in processing words in new languages

Language learners may have a more difficult time identifying words in a second language if their native language is similar to the new language, according to a recent study, which examines native language influence on second language acquisition. Researchers also found that location can affect how well native speakers use cues to recognize words in a second language.
