La Scuola dei Piccoli at Henry Ford Elementary School – Redwood City, CA

Starting its very first class in January 2020, La Scuola dei Piccoli is one of the few realities in Redwood City and San Mateo County with the goal of teaching the Italian Language and Italian Culture to K-5 students through fun activities, play, and more traditional lessons. As we are ramping up our efforts, we are looking for someone to help us teach Italian to K-5 kids and plan the activities, while creating a fun and enriching environment for the students.

The commitment required is 2-3 hours per week, one day a week, to run two classes. Expect to start the class during the 2020/2021 school year.

“Italiano Giocando” from 1:05 or 1:35pm for Kinder grade students.
“Level 1 – Italian” 2:40pm for 1st-3rd grade. Each class is 1 hour long.

The ideal candidate:

  • Is fluent in Italian – either a native speaker, or someone with extended exposure to the language
  • Is excited about working with kids
  • can help them learn the ABC, basic grammar, grow their vocabulary, tell them stories related to the Italian Culture and Language, organize activities, play, or sing in Italian
  • Is able to teach the classes in autonomy, from to planning the activities and preparing the material, to running the class with the kids (some materials and textbooks are available already)
  • Is willing to go through fingerprinting, TBC and basic background check (all expenses covered with a very simple process)

Preference will be given to candidates who:

  • Have some past teaching experience
  • Are familiar with Metodo Bortolato or are willing to learn the Metodo Bortolato

The position is ideal for active or retired teachers looking for a few hours a week to play and teach kids in a fun environment; expats looking for an afternoon activity that would greatly help their community; students fluent with the Italian language willing to build or bootstrap their teaching curriculum. Salary is based on teaching experience and hours of commitment.
