The Italian American Museum Los Angeles presents, Italianità: Italian Diaspora Artists Explore Identity, a temporary exhibition of visual art that explores the cultural richness of the Italian diaspora. In the arts, the term diaspora refers to artists who have migrated from one part of the world to another, or whose ancestors have. Their dissimilar experiences influence their work, which explores themes such as dual identity, memory, folklore, faith, dislocation, and migration. The artists create alternative narratives and challenge the structures of the established notions of belonging.
Using the visual arts as a vehicle, Italianità showcases the history and cultural richness of the Italian Diaspora, and celebrate the beliefs, practices, traditions, and customs connected to these movements. It features work by revered artists including Joseph Stella, Italo Scanga, Ralph Fasanella, Rico LeBrun, and Leo Politi.
