Scholarship for High School Italian Teacher to Study Italian in Taormina, Sicily


Fondazione Italia and The Center for Italian Studies “Babilonia” is excited to offer a 2-week scholarship to attend an Italian language course between May to August 2014 (including accommodation in private room in shared apartment) to one high school teacher of Italian (non-native speaker) for his/her excellence in classroom teaching. The grant recipient must also have made extraordinary contributions to the expansion of Italian language and culture in his/her school and local community and be committed to share his/her study with his/her school and community upon return from Italy.

Since 1992, The Center for Italian Studies “Babilonia” in Taormina, Sicily has passionately dedicated themselves to promoting Italian and Sicilian heritage and culture along with the study of the Italian language. They strive to not only offer an opportunity to learn the Italian language and to directly experience Italian culture and Italian life.


  • Must be currently teaching a minimum of two classes of Italian at a U.S.  high school
  • Must be a non-native Italian speaker
  • A recommendation letter
  • Must submit a short essay in Italian taking place in Taormina (even an imaginary Taormina if someone has never been in Taormina before).

All applications must be submitted no later than March 30, 2014. Notification of award will be made by April 15, 2014.
