Date 01.22.2020

Italian American Museum of Los Angeles is pleased to bring you a free and open to the public screening of “Finding the Mother Lode: Italian Immigrants in California” on Sunday, January 26 at 3:30 pm.

Finding the Mother Lode is a film by Gianfranco Norelli and Suma Kurien that documents the experiences of Italian immigrants in California. Italians first settled en masse in California during the Gold Rush. While few made fortunes in mining, they did find a mother lode in farming, fishing, commerce, and wine making. Their contributions shaped the economy and culture of California. Through stories set in seven Italian communities in California, this film examines how Italo-Californians achieved economic and social mobility, and explores how ethnic identity is maintained and transformed as immigrants become assimilated into mainstream America.
