Adult Beginning I & Adult Elementary II
My name is Sylvia and I was a little girl when my parents moved to Italy to a small town in the province of Ragusa. I lived there until I became an adult and studied at the University of Catania. After that I decided to move back to California where I went back to college to obtain my units in Early Child Development. I have been teaching Italian and English to children and adults for the past 20 years. I have given private lessons and have also worked in Elementary and preschool settings. In addition to working with Fondazione Italia for the past several years, I am also currently teaching English to K-3 students. I look forward to teaching you Italian!

Stefania has been a teacher since she was 16 years old! Teaching has always been a passion of Stefania’s so while still attending High School and University, Stefania began tutoring younger children. After receiving her Master’s Degree in Foreign Languages and Literature from the Università Orientale in Naples, she taught at a local high school. When Stefania moved to Washington, D.C. in 1994, she began teaching at an Italian Language school called Casa Italiana and received an additional teaching credential from the Università di Siena. While in Washington, D.C., she also taught Italian to employees from the U.S. Department of State. In 2003, Stefania returned to Rome, Italy to specialize in Health and Safety in the workplace by leading seminars on Health and Safety in schools, and in public and private companies. Stefania moved to the Los Angeles area from Rome in 2015 and quickly found herself at home teaching children Italian with Fondazione Italia. Stefania loves ballet, exploring nature with her four children, and of course traveling back to Italy to visit friends and family!
Parlo Italiano II & Adult Beginning
Ciao! My name is Valentina and I am a native Italian teacher from Udine. I have been living in California since the end of July 2014. I have an undergraduate Italian degree in Italian Language and Italian Literature and two Master’s degrees; the first is for “MIM Mediation Inter-Mediterraneum: investment and integration” and the second is for “Educational Aspects of Artistic Disciplines in Humanities for Secondary School Teaching.” In 2008 I earned my Italian Secondary Teaching Certification and in 2014 I completed a program specializing in “Psycho-pedagogic approaches to teaching in high school”.
I am a dedicated Italian Teacher with strong experience teaching language and culture in Adult and Youth Education settings. I am passionate about assisting adult language learners to communicate. My background also includes experience in middle and high school teaching. In my experience as a teacher, I have developed engaging lesson plans for both language and cultural instruction. I like to utilize a variety of teaching methods (for example role-play, class debates and discussions…I like the idea that the student can learn Italian by having fun as well!) to present lessons and assess learning. Through my years of teaching children and adults, I have learned to create and design lessons that articulate a clear objective and the steps to reach that objective as an integral part of the lesson plan process. The student, or the group of students that I work with, their level of proficiency and their interests and strengths are all factored in to my lesson plans which are not only effective but also interesting. This, I believe, is fundamental if the student is to take center stage in the learning process. Over the years I have acquired and consolidated the ability to assess my students’ level of proficiency by observing and listening to their contributions. My teaching experience is complemented by academic research projects and volunteer involvement in different grades.
I’m multilingual (Italian, Spanish, English) and I have lived in Italy, Spain, and the US.
Some of my personal interests include reading and writing. I also enjoy running and playing with my two kids. I love cooking for my family and for my friends and I am an Italian coffee drinker (AMO IL CAFFE’)!! I also like to travel and visit other countries.
I am available for 1-on-1 or small group lessons. We can meet at your house, office or in a library as well as online via Skype.
Locations: Irvine, Laguna Beach, Tustin, Newport, Corona del Mar, Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Lake Forrest and nearby areas.
Please feel free to contact me for pricing and scheduling.
Grazie mille, a presto
Ciao a tutti! My name is Simona and I grew up in Como, Italy where I graduated from the Bocconi University in Milan with a degree in International Business. After several years working in Human Resources for a U.S. multinational company, I decided it was time for a change of scenery (and weather!) and moved to sunny Los Angeles with my husband and two children. Since moving to Los Angeles, I have worked for the U.S. office of the Vicenza Trade Fair (VTF) as a Marketing and PR Specialist. In 2013 however, I left my job to pursue my passion for teaching by completing a training course for foreign language teachers based on the Montessori Methodology and started teaching at Fondazione Italia in 2014. I love staying connected to my Italian culture through teaching the language!
I am available for one-on-one online classes.
Please contact me directly for pricing, scheduling and location information.

My name is Petra Petry and I am very excited to be your Italian teacher and cultural guide. People that already took my class know me well. I was born in Czech, but as a very young girl I was transplanted to a beautiful city of Venice, which I consider my hometown. My mother is still living there, so I go visit almost every year. I graduated from Venetian Ca’Foscari University with double major and Laurea Dottore in Languages Literature & History with emphasis on Cultural Studies. I have been teaching at College and University levels for past 16 years and I can’t believe that I have been with the non-profit Fondazione Italia for almost 10 years now. I am looking forward to teaching you Italian!
Bio: My name is Onelia, I was born and raised in Italy, and I moved here just on December 4th 2014 with my husband Emanuele. We have 6 years old girl: Nicole.
I started my studies with the intent to be a teacher, because one of the driver of my life has always been to be able to help children, during the preliminary phases of their life, seeing them grow, explore and improve educational and interpersonal skills.
I am very excited to get to know your children (and you) and be their “maestra” for this upcoming session. I promise I will do my best to make it fun, but still productive.
