Exploring the World of Design – A Family Art Workshop on July 10

On the occasion of A Traveling Archive, the exhibition on view thru July 31st dedicated to the great designer Vico Magistretti, join the Italian Cultural Institute in collaboration with Fondazione Italia, for an afternoon of fun, hands-on creativity and playful exploration of the world of design. Silvia Rigon, an Italian artist and creative designer living in LA will introduce children and families to the basic flow of the design process where imagination and creativity meet problem-solving and constraints. Employing role-playing and design challenges, children will experiment with using a variety of materials, from wire to foam to cardboard while learning about the role of different elements involved in the production of a design artifact.

Silvia Rigon holds a degree in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice (Italy), and a MFA from the Department of Design | Media Arts at UCLA (2002). She is a teaching faculty at the Center for the Visual, Media and Performing Arts at Pasadena City College. Previously, she worked at the Walt Disney Company and taught at RISD and UCLA. Her work has been exhibited internationally in such venues as: The Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Tokyo, Japan; The Center of Contemporary Art in Torun, Poland; The Center for Contemporary Art, Tallin, Estonia; The Parachute Factory (Yale University), New Haven; The California Institute of Nanotechnology, Los Angeles; The Pacific Design Center, Los Angeles.
