As of 4 December 2018, an adequate knowledge of the Italian language, at least at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (Council of Europe 2001), is required when applying for Italian citizenship through marriage or residency.
Fondazione Italia offers several online course for different levels that focus on teaching the necessary skills to pass the CILS B1 Citizenship test.

The next session for the B1 Citizenship exam is February 25, 2021 available only in at the San Diego Testing Center. There will also be a session on June 22, 2021. Please note: It is the student’s responsibility to register for the exam at a testing center near them. Test date availability vary per testing site.
