ACTFL Calls for Inclusion of World Languages in ESEA Rewrite

Schools’ implementation of world languages programs has been inconsistent, but reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act offers an opportunity to change this trend, write Marty Abbott, executive director of ACTFL, and Bill Rivers of the Joint National Committee for Languages. “The Federal Role, in our view, is to provide leadership — both in terms of rhetoric and funding — to encourage school systems to add world languages to their curricula,” they write.
