Italian Language Foundation (ILF) Offers $300 Scholarship to Italian teachers.

The ILF is generously offering a $300 scholarship for ten teachers of Italian to attend the Italian Advanced Placement workshop held in conjunction with the ACTFL Annual Convention and Language Expo, in Orlando, FL. The AP workshop focuses not just on the Advanced Placement curriculum for the Italian Language and Culture course and exam, but provides valuable strategies for standards-based and thematic-focused instruction at all levels.

The scholarship is intended for teachers who have not previously attended an AP workshop and is sufficient to cover the cost of the workshop plus the additional night of lodging you may need.

For more information, please contact Bruna Boyle.

Application deadline is November 4, 2013.

Title: AP Italian Language and Culture
Presenter: Beppe Cavatorta
Description: For new and experienced AP teachers as well as Italian language educators interested in learning about instructional design and assessment for equivalent college courses, this workshop will give participants concrete strategies for designing and implementing an effective AP Italian Language and Culture curriculum. Drawing from the AP World Language and Culture curriculum framework, participants will learn how to develop activities and assessments that present language in cultural context, appropriately build students’ proficiencies in the modes of communication as defined in the Standards for Foreign Language Learning: Preparing for the 21st Century and integrate “authentic materials” into language instruction. Additionally, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the exam structure and learn strategies to help students prepare for the exam. Participants will also receive advice on how to prepare for the AP Course Audit. Each participant will receive a copy of the AP Workshop Handbook.
