Free Kids Dance Workshop with Italian Dance Company, Artemis Danza! on Nov. 17

Dance and Movement Workshop led by Italian dance company, Artemis Danza! Kids six and older will dance and play to the music of Nino Rota.

For kids six years old and older, participants will learn some basic dance moves from Monica Casadei’s repertoire and take part in a choreography inspired by the magical notes of Maestro Rota. The kids dance workshop will be followed by a short performance from Monica Casadei’s I BISLACCHI – Homage to Fellini.

Cinema Italian Style 2013! Nov. 14-20

Luce Cinecittà and American Cinemathèque in collaboration with the IIC present CINEMA ITALIAN STYLE 2013

November 14 – 20 at the Egyptian and Aero Theaters

The 2013 edition of Cinema Italian Style (CIS) – the glamorous Los Angeles showcase for contemporary Italian cinema, is produced by Luce Cinecittà and the American Cinematheque. Dedicated to Federico Fellini, on the twentieth anniversary of his death. CIS 2013 presents a feature film and a documentary selection compiled by the artistic curator Laura DelliColli, of Italy’s best and most recent productions, including The great beauty by Paolo Sorrentino, the Italian Entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards

The program also includes a photography exhibition and the screening of documentaries at the IIC, as well as workshops and master classes for university students.

Verdi’s Falstaff at the LA Opera begins Nov. 9

THE LA OPERA presents FALSTAFF! November 9 – December 1, 2013 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion.

In honor of Verdi’s 200th birthday, LA Opera presents a new production of the crowning glory of the composer’s magnificent career, his comic masterpiece Falstaff. LA Opera Music Director James Conlon, praised internationally for his mastery of Verdi, conducts this unabashed celebration of Merrie Olde England’s lusty days and bawdy nights, starring Italian baritone Roberto Frontali. On this occasion, a bronze bust of Verdi produced by Marinelli Foundry in Florence and based on the composer’s famous portrait by Giovanni Boldini, will be showcased in the hall of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

ACTFL AP Workshop Scholarship for Teachers of Italian

Italian Language Foundation (ILF) Offers $300 Scholarship to Italian teachers.

The ILF is generously offering a $300 scholarship for ten teachers of Italian to attend the Italian Advanced Placement workshop held in conjunction with the ACTFL Annual Convention and Language Expo, in Orlando, FL. The AP workshop focuses not just on the Advanced Placement curriculum for the Italian Language and Culture course and exam, but provides valuable strategies for standards-based and thematic-focused instruction at all levels.

The scholarship is intended for teachers who have not previously attended an AP workshop and is sufficient to cover the cost of the workshop plus the additional night of lodging you may need.

Title: AP Italian Language and Culture
Presenter: Beppe Cavatorta
Description: For new and experienced AP teachers as well as Italian language educators interested in learning about instructional design and assessment for equivalent college courses, this workshop will give participants concrete strategies for designing and implementing an effective AP Italian Language and Culture curriculum. Drawing from the AP World Language and Culture curriculum framework, participants will learn how to develop activities and assessments that present language in cultural context, appropriately build students’ proficiencies in the modes of communication as defined in the Standards for Foreign Language Learning: Preparing for the 21st Century and integrate “authentic materials” into language instruction. Additionally, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the exam structure and learn strategies to help students prepare for the exam. Participants will also receive advice on how to prepare for the AP Course Audit. Each participant will receive a copy of the AP Workshop Handbook.


Italian Opera Festival in Orange County – Oct. 25, 26 & 27

Second Annual Italian Opera Festival in Orange County

The Italian American Opera Foundation will produce the second edition of the Italian Opera Festival from October 25, 26, 27, 2013 in the marvelous location of the Soka Performing Art Center.

Honorary Chairman for the Italian Opera Festival is Bruno Serato from Anaheim White House.

Festival also features an Italian Village that will bring the global allure of Italy to Orange County and pay tribute to Italian heritage while providing guests a glimpse of a unique culture that they may have never experienced before through the celebration of Italian MUSIC, FASHION, ART, FOOD AND CULTURE.

The Italian Village will take place October 25 through the 27, 2013 in the same location and in parallel with the Italian Opera Festival.

Italian CSET Exam Offered in Los Angeles on Saturday, Nov. 2

Fondazione Italia is an Italian Assessor Agency that has been approved to administer the language portion (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) of the Italian California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET) in Los Angeles.

Any teacher wishing to teach Italian at a public middle or high school must pass both sections of the Italian CSET along with completing a credentialing program.

In an effort to sustain Italian heritage and culture, the Orange County American Italian Renaissance Foundation is dedicated to preserving the heritage of all American Italians in Orange County and annually conducts a Columbus Celebration at the Bowers Museum. This year, the Columbus Celebration will be held in conjunction with the Italian and Mediterranean Family Festival.

This year, the Italian Arts Council will honor Vince Ferragamo.

Program

10:00 am ITALIAN CULTURAL ARTS COUNCIL invites you to its Annual Columbus Day Celebration with Honoree Vince Ferragamo!

The event features color guard, anthems, speakers, a wreath ceremony, representatives of the Italian Consulate, and community dignitaries.
