Patrons of Italian Culture offer Scholarship Opportunity for High School Seniors Studying Italian

Full Time High School Seniors from anywhere in the U.S. who are currently enrolled in Italian language classes and who have been accepted to an accredited College or University are eligible for consideration for this scholarship offered by the Patrons of Italian Culture. A commitment to a major or minor in Italian Language or Italian Studies is strongly recommended, however, consideration will be given to the applicant’s final course of study. You do not have to have Italian heritage to apply.
 
Scholarships will be awarded in various amounts. Funding of all scholarships will be deposited to the account of the student at the academic institution he or she will be attending.
 
Deadline to apply is April 30, 2019

Newport Beach Film Festival: Italian Spotlight – April 30

On Tuesday, April 30th, 2019, the 20th annual Newport Beach Film Festival presented by Pacific Sales will present its Italian Spotlight, an evening celebration of Italian cinema and culture. The event will screen the US Premiere of the Italian feature film “Let Me Introduce You to Sofia” (Ti Presento Sofia), followed by a festive post-screening celebration.

“Let Me Introduce You to Sofia” follows an ex-rocker Gabriele, who is the cur-rent owner of a music store and divorced dad of 10-year-old Sofia. One day, an old friend Mara, a successful photographer, who dislikes children, reemerges into Gabriele’s life. Overwhelmed by his passion and desire for Mara, he attempts to hide their existence from one another. “Let Me Introduce You to Sofia” is directed by Guido Chiesa and stars Fabio de Luigi, Micaela Ramazzotti, and Caterina Sbaraglia.

Eduitalia Scholarships for Students who take the Italian AP® Exam in 2019

Eduitalia, an association of 78 qualified schools and Universities that offer courses for foreign students in Italy, is proud to support the Embassy of Italy in Washington D.C., in their important initiative to promote Italian language and culture within the United States.

Only students who take the AP® Italian Language and Culture exam in May 2019 are eligible.

The scholarships will allow winners to have an unforgettable study abroad language experience in Italy. The winners will be chosen through a random drawing that will take place at the School Office of the Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C..

The 21 scholarships will cover the costs of enrollment, classes, accommodation, teaching material and extracurricular activities (airfare is not included).

The application deadline is May 11, 2019.

B1 CILS certification from Università per Stranieri di Siena for adults is being offered at Istituto Italiano Di Cultura Los Angeles on May 30. Passage of the B1 is now necessary to receive Italian citizenship.

Reading of Leo Politi’s, “A Boat for Peppe” at IAMLA – Mar. 30

The Italian American Museum of Los Angeles invites you to a reading of Leo Politi’s A Boat for Peppe. Italian American artist and award-winning author Leo Politi wrote and illustrated over twenty children’s books as well as other works intended for adults. Published in 1950, A Boat for Peppe explores the adventures of a Sicilian American boy in California who is the son of a fisherman. With Peppe’s help, readers learn about the cultural tradition of blessing fishing boats at the beginning of the fishing season each year. This free public program is designed for children and their families and is presented in conjunction with the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles’ current temporary exhibition, Leo Politi’s Los Angeles-Works of Love and Protest, which showcases a collection of original art by Politi, who is best known as the “Artist of the City of Angels.” Visitors will be able to view the exhibition during the book reading.
